This past Sunday October 6th, MSM walked in support of American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. MSM, MRD, Imaging Partners and Women’s Imaging Center collectively raised $6,713.60 that will support Orange County families battling cancer. Congrats Team!!!
MSM held a People Skills training session on Thursday, April 4th. This session was led by Cherie Kerr, the founder of an organization named ExecuProv. Cherie’s company focuses on utilizing the rules and lessons gleaned from improv acting and applying them to workplace situations to increase successes. Cherie has worked with many successful companies including Toyota, Panasonic, Volcom, and Marriott. Some of the members of our management team had the opportunity to meet Cherie a few years ago at a training session we attended at UCI. We felt that Cherie’s lessons were incredibly memorable, entertaining, fun and overall extremely insightful.
We are excited to get back in touch with Cherie. Cherie’s teaching style is very interactive. In addition to learning important lessons about people skills, Cherie’s sessions are always guaranteed to be fun! In addition to gaining valuable skills, our goal is that this session will give attendees the opportunity to meet people in other departments, interact with them in a creative manner, and form new connections here at MSM.
We are now collecting donations for the Orangewood Children’s Foundation! Now, through Friday, February 8th, we will be collecting gently worn clothing that is in good condition, as well as a variety of Valentine’s Day packaged candies. For more information on the Orangewood Children’s Foundation, visit their website at www.orangewoodfoundation.org
Last month, employees at MSM donated hundreds of pens, pencils, notebooks, crayons and other requested items to the Orangewood Children’s Foundation’s Back-To-School Drive. Some MSM employees even had the chance to deliver the boxes of donated items and tour the organization and shared their experience:
Visiting the Orangewood Children’s Foundation was an amazing experience. The foundation is a private nonprofit organization whose mission statement is, “To provide innovative services for abused and neglected children and at-risk families to end the cycle of child abuse one life at a time.” They are dedicated in helping young children and young adults, mainly those who are in the process of being emancipated. We were given a tour of the facility and learned that they provide many resources for the children, such as: computers, telephones, professional/business casual clothing (for interviews and such,) televisions, workshops, scholarships, food, washer/dryers, and mentors. While on the tour, we saw a few employees from another company preparing a meal for the children. We were told that many companies volunteer their time to drop by and prepare meals. We do not have to wait for summertime or Christmas to help the children/teens at Orangewood. We can help year round by donating clothes, non perishable foods, hygiene items, holding food drives, and even by organizing a pot-luck and having someone take the food. Being there made me appreciate the Orangewood Foundation for everything that they do.
Knowing that there is a constant need for food and other donations, MSM aims to partner with Orangewood more frequently, and foster more community involvement for our generous employees.
Calling all donors!
MSM is once again hosting its annual Orangewood Donation Drive! This time of year, the foundation is in need of “Back-to-School” items in addition to their needs for everyday items. MSM is collecting employee and vendor donations beginning Monday, July 2nd through Friday, August 3rd.
About Orangewood Children’s Foundation:
The mission of the Orangewood Children’s Foundation is to provide services for abused and neglected children and at-risk families to end the cycle of child abuse one life at a time. Approximately 10% of children in Orange County are temporarily placed at the Orangewood Children & Family Center, formally The Orangewood Children’s Home, due to unsafe conditions in their homes. Many of these children spend their lives in foster care and at the age of 18, they find themselves on their own—emancipated from the dependency system. Orangewood steps in, and works on long-term solutions to this issue. Orange Children’s Foundation has programs in place that offer emergency assistance, job placement, transition housing, peer counseling and scholarships for college or vocational training. These programs give teens the opportunity to succeed, despite the challenges of their past.

Based on the feedback provided by our employees, MSM was honored by the Orange County Register as a 2011 Top Workplace! This year, the Orange County Register surveyed 18,500 of employees from 119 companies across Orange County. Each employee response was used to help designate the companies. The questions asked for direct feedback from employees regarding company values and ethics, confidence in company direction, career training, benefits package, as well as work life balance. This year MSM placed 13th out of 40 companies chosen in the small business category.
For the third year in a row, MSM has been given this Top Workplace honor. We are incredibly proud to be able to provide our employees with a place where they can have a sense of pride and ownership. The leadership at MSM believes that a company is only as strong as the people it employs and they are ever grateful for the hard work and effort our employees put into their workday.
In addition to the Top Workplaces honor, the Orange County Register also featured an article on our leader and chief Barry Haberman. Barry was interviewed by UCI MD/MBA candidate PK Fonsworth about his management style, his leadership influences and his career learning experiences. In addition to being printed in the Orange County Register Top Workplaces Supplement, the article is posted on the Orange County Register website.
Orange County Register Top Workplaces Supplement also includes a MSM ad space which features some our marvelous employees. We enjoyed interviewing them to hear about what they find unique about our workplace and what they love about their jobs.
This Top Workplace award indicates a promising future for MSM, our employees and clients alike and we look forward to another successful year together! Thanks to our employees for this honor!
On Sunday September 25th, the Orange County community hit the streets of Fashion Island in Newport Beach to support the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. This race is one of the largest charity events in Orange County and unites our community with hope and resolve for a future without breast cancer. Among the 22,000 participants was our mighty “Team WIC”. Team Women’s Imaging Center’s members included a mix of employees and their families from Medical Specialties Managers, Moran, Rowen & Dorsey and Women’s Imaging Center, all located in Orange, California. Women’s Imaging Center Radiologist and annual race participant Dr. Richard Cho joined the team. Our team was also joined by special guests Dr. Lilly Ramirez-Boyd and Dr. Brian Boyd as well the amazing staff from the offices of Dr. Randy Fiorentino, Dr. Karen Lau, Dr. Lisa Valle and Dr. Juan Velez. With more than 70 participants, Team WIC was able to raise a $3,000 contribution.
In the sea of pink t-shirts, you could spot the Team WIC members from a mile away! Our t-shirt theme this year was “Take Charge! Show Cancer Who’s Boss!” Our team members wore a grey t-shirt that featured a tie and suspenders embellished with breast cancer awareness and support buttons. Graphic designer Corrie Tse (www.corrietse.com) donated her talents for the cause.
Celebrating the 20th annual Race for the Cure, the Susan G. Komen Foundation has raised over $1.3 million in 2011 through race participants alone! In its 20 years of tradition, the Race for the Cure has raised over $27 million dollars that has gone towards awareness efforts, research and supporting those affected by breast cancer. This year, the foundation set their fundraising goal at $3 million. Donations are still being accepted to hit the target (www.ockomen.org). With the help from foundations such as Susan G. Komen, researchers are able to work towards finding a cure.

This holiday season we have decided to contribute to the Holidays from the Heart Program through Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. The Holidays from the Heart Program provides an opportunity for MSM employees to purchase gifts for families from our geographic area who have children who are chronically ill and who are financially unable to provide for themselves and their children during the holiday season. Having a chronically ill child has a tremendous impact emotionally and financially on the entire family. The Holidays from the Heart Program seeks to acknowledge that burden by helping families with limited financial resources to have a special holiday celebration that they will remember. Our MSM employees are sponsoring two families this year. The generous staff at Moran, Rowen & Dorsey, Imaging Partners of Orange County and the Women’s Imaging Center have also decided to participate in gift giving for these special families this holiday season. Collectively, we hope to make this holiday season shine for five families in need.
