Cherie Kerr at MSM!

MSM held a People Skills training session on Thursday, April 4th. This session was led by Cherie Kerr, the founder of an organization named ExecuProv. Cherie’s company focuses on utilizing the rules and lessons gleaned from improv acting and applying them to workplace situations to increase successes. Cherie has worked with many successful companies including Toyota, Panasonic, Volcom, and Marriott. Some of the members of our management team had the opportunity to meet Cherie a few years ago at a training session we attended at UCI. We felt that Cherie’s lessons were incredibly memorable, entertaining, fun and overall extremely insightful.

We are excited to get back in touch with Cherie. Cherie’s teaching style is very interactive. In addition to learning important lessons about people skills, Cherie’s sessions are always guaranteed to be fun! In addition to gaining valuable skills, our goal is that this session will give attendees the opportunity to meet people in other departments, interact with them in a creative manner, and form new connections here at MSM.

Orangewood Children’s Foundation Summer Donation Drive 2012

Calling all donors!

MSM is once again hosting its annual Orangewood Donation Drive! This time of year, the foundation is in need of “Back-to-School” items in addition to their needs for everyday items. MSM is collecting employee and vendor donations beginning Monday, July 2nd through Friday, August 3rd.
About Orangewood Children’s Foundation:

The mission of the Orangewood Children’s Foundation is to provide services for abused and neglected children and at-risk families to end the cycle of child abuse one life at a time. Approximately 10% of children in Orange County are temporarily placed at the Orangewood Children & Family Center, formally The Orangewood Children’s Home, due to unsafe conditions in their homes. Many of these children spend their lives in foster care and at the age of 18, they find themselves on their own—emancipated from the dependency system. Orangewood steps in, and works on long-term solutions to this issue. Orange Children’s Foundation has programs in place that offer emergency assistance, job placement, transition housing, peer counseling and scholarships for college or vocational training. These programs give teens the opportunity to succeed, despite the challenges of their past.

2010 Orange County Race for the Cure

Sunday, September 26th, from 6:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, the Orange County Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure presents the 2010 Orange County Race for the Cure at Fashion Island. The event, which raises significant funds and awareness each year, will feature two 5K walks, a one-mile fun walk and a breast cancer survivor tribute.

MSM will sponsor employees that are interested in joining the team on race day! The registration includes a “Race for the Cure T-shirt” and Team WIC will also be creating T-shirts to be worn on race day.

Today, Komen for the Cure is the world’s largest grassroots network of breast cancer survivors and activists fighting to save lives, empower people, ensure quality care for all and energize science to find the cures. Orangewood Children’s Foundation

MSM’s food, toiletry and school supplies drive for Orangewood was a huge success! A huge thank you to each and every person for helping to improve the lives of foster kids in Orange County. Because of your generosity, we needed 2 SUVs to deliver all of our donations. When we arrived at Orangewood, they were thrilled!

Located in the city of Orange, California, the Home is Orange County’s only emergency shelter for neglected and sexually, physically or emotionally abused children. The Home provides refuge each year for about 3200 children who have been removed from their caretakers by police officers or child protective services workers and placed into protective custody.

The Home is comprised of hacienda-style cottages that house children and teens ranging in age from just days old to age 18. Currently the average stay is 22 days. The Home is equipped to hold over 200 children.

Along with the cottages, the Home has medical facilities, a branch of the Orange County Public Library system, and an on-site K through 12 school and preschool. The facilities also include a fully equipped gymnasium, softball field, basketball courts, game room, pool and toddler pool.

The Home and its volunteers give the children, toddlers and teens a loving environment for periods ranging from a few days to several weeks or months while Juvenile Court decisions are made about their future and welfare. On completion of processing, the children are placed into foster care or in the care of relatives.

Through an extraordinary public-private partnership, the Foundation raised the money to build the Home, donating it back to the County on its completion. Ongoing special projects funded by Orangewood Children’s Foundation help to keep facilities in peak operating condition. The Foundation continues to support the Home and its young occupants, providing a wide range of programs, activities, equipment, supplies, and necessities for the children who reside there.
